Making art at home with your little ones: creating an art space

Start off small. Gather together all of the materials that you have for art making for yourself and your children. What is already around your house that you can use to create art? First, find all of the traditional art making materials that you have like pencils, pens, markers, crayons, paints, and paper and sort through those. Then look around your house for other unusual materials that might work for creative projects as well. Cardboard, bottle caps, bubble wrap, straws, plastic utensils are a few ideas to get you started.

Clear and create a space for art making to happen and give yourself time everyday to do that. Now is the perfect time to begin to experiment with art making or to pay close attention to art making again. Set aside some time each day to make something new or to continue working on a project. Decide whether you want two different spaces or one area where you work together if you have children.

This artwork below was made by a class of 4 year olds using homemade stamps, paints, charcoal, pencils, and stencils.
